GOD OF AYURVEDA
Dhanvantari Moorthy is revered as the father of medicine and health. He is considered an incarnation (avatar) of Lord Vishnu, and ancient Hindu scriptures like the Vedas and the Puranas contain numerous references to him. Often referred to as the physician of the Gods, he is credited with founding Ayurvedic medicine and is regarded as the deity of health and immortality. Dhanvantari is also hailed as the world's first physician and surgeon, believed to protect humanity from all diseases.
The recitation of the Dhanvantari mantra is a practice aimed at dispelling fears, curing diseases, and promoting overall health for individuals. The mantra goes as follows:
"Om Namo Bhagavate Maha Sudarshanaya Vasudevaya Dhanvantaraye
Amritakalasha Hastaya Sarvabhaya Vinashaya Sarvaroganivaranaaya
Trilokapathaya Trilokanathaya Shri Mahavishnusvarupa
Shri Dhanvantari Svarupa Shri Shri Shri Ashtachakra Narayanaya Namah."
This mantra can be translated as follows:
"We offer our prayers to the divine Sudarshana Vasudev Dhanvantari, who holds the pot of immortal nectar. Lord Dhanvantari dispels all fears and heals all ailments. He is the protector of the three worlds, resembling Lord Vishnu and empowered to heal the souls. We bow to the Lord of Ayurveda."
